China can 'safeguard' territory amid dispute: Xinhua
Beijing (AFP) Aug 30, 2012
The Chinese armed forces are capable of "safeguarding" the country's territory, a military spokesman was quoted as saying by state media on Thursday, amid a territorial dispute with Japan. Geng Yansheng, a spokesman for the Ministry of Defence, also repeated Beijing's claim to a chain of disputed islands in the East China Sea known in China as Diaoyu and in Japan as Senkaku.
