Ancient olive trees make way for pipeline

A batch of centuries-old olive trees in southern Italy have been moved out of the way of a controversial new pipeline in a dead-of-night operation that required the deployment of dozens of police. More than 200 opponents of the project to pipe gas from the Caspian Sea to Italy via Turkey, Greece and Albania tried in vain to block the transfer of 11 of the some 200 trees due to be moved.
